This Thing Called Life

Let's see what is there to update on? Well actually a lot! I know I'm not very good at this whole posting thing, in fact Im pretty bad, but Im trying! So anyways... This past Friday I was able to sit down with Chuck from the center and get a little better understanding of what I will be doing for my internship. 50 of my hours will be spent at the youth center and the other 50 will be at the new site which is called East Hills Village. I will be going over there on Mondays and possibly Wednesdays. So its a little easier to breathe now that I have a better idea of what is going on. Friday night I went to a play with the youth center called Blood Money, What it Means to be a man. It was really good. It was about being a "MAN" in the urban culture and really it could be in any culture. It addressed saving yourself until marriage and how important it is for both guys and girls to know that they are worth waiting for. And it really addressed alot of different issues especially in the urban culture, such as shootings, kids out of marriage, dance off's ( which was amazing in and of itself). I definately enjoyed my time there. One of the girls even went to the altar afterwards. Another thing i thought was really cool was that they handed out Abstinence Cards and had people sign them and it was neat... I know in high school people would ask if such and such had a V-Card and thats basically what they gave out, and it was a commitment to yourself and a friend to stay true until marriage. But enough of that rambling if you would like to see a trailer,I guess you could call it...you can go to: http://www.guardyourself.org/vid/bloodmoney.cfm

But anyways, I am going back to Nall Avenue Naz. and this past Sunday was their college luncheon it was really nice to be able to hang out with people my own age, at the other church I went to there really wasnt anyone my age , even the Sunday School class was an older adult class, so its nice to have people my age I can talk with and hang with. I did get a phone call from the children's pastor at Nall today , asking me if I would be willing to help out with their children's dept. and I of course said YES and so Im excited about that!!

My Birthday is in 17 days and I wont lie not looking forward to it. Dont wanna spend it here... without family kinda sucks, but its part of life and living away from home. I know that I have people here that will make it a great day though!!!

Thats about it for the last couple of days ill check back in prolly sometime this weekend!!!

PEACE!

Snowy Days

well it was brought to my attention today from my father, that i havent updated in awhile. This is mainly because it has been extremely crazy the last couple of weeks. I dont know when the last time I updated was but let me fill you in on whats going on in my life and any other random thoughts that come up.

I went roller skating a few weeks ago with the youth center, and boy was it a blast. It showed me that i am getting old and out of shape to be skating around and around with 12-16 year olds!! My arms and legs hurt so bad on sat. i thought i was gonna die!!!! I have also been CPR/ First Aide certified, i am now officially able to perform CPR on a person, kinda scary I know. Always make sure you Secure the scene... ( LOL)

Classes are back in full bloom. I have actually already dropped a class and picked up a new one, I dropped Missionary Anthropology and Picked up another semester of Missionary Internship. I will now be doing 100 hours of internship at the urban youth center as opposed to 50. Its definately going to be a busy semester. I am still in the process of finishing up stuff from my module... THINGS ARE CRAZY.

I am still looking for a new job, but dont really wanna quit payless in case something opens up somewhere else ( some of you know what Im talking about here). just continue praying for me.... things are going well , I am gettin the nasty sick bug going around and its definately not fun. Other than that life is pretty much Life, boring , fun, crazy, LIFE....

You Have a House for Your Car?

You may be thinking this is an odd title for a post, but I was in my City in Theological Perspectives class today, and our fill in professor was speaking about the story in Matthew of the Widow and how the key word in the passage is WIDOW she was giving all she had to the church, when in all actuality the church was to be providing for the widow. He said that he was in Africa a few years ago and there was a discussion between various students and an American student made a comment about forgetting to put their car in the garage before they left for Africa and with the weather being crazy they should have put it in the garage, the African student was confused and asked what a garage was, the American student tried explaining that it was a separate place for your car, and the African student made the comment, " You have a house for your car?" WOW talk about a smack in the face. I sit and complain about not having money for gas, or something petty like a night out with friends, and people in other countries are amazed that we have "houses" for our cars, it really makes you think, what does the world think about you and your money? or in my case lack thereof? It just really made me think, that we take a lot for granted here.

Now that Im off my soap box, classes are in full bloom, I wrote out my schedule for the next few months and boy am I going to be slammed, barely even time to breathe. Classes are going to be very interesting though and I am pretty excited about that. I am going to get to participate in an Urban Immersion weekend in KC, which I am super excited about. Tonight I am going roller skating with the kids at the youth center. I dont think I have been skating since my freshman year at MVNU. Its been a great week and I am looking forward to a great semester. Tomorrow I am getting certified in CPR which I have never done before, so Im a little nervous but it will be good! Well I had better be off, its 5:30 and I am heading out to the center. Oh and I got a valentine package in the mail today!!! It was filled with all sorts of goodies it made my day!!!

Back in the Groove

Well classes have started , FUN FUN FUN, nah just playing, its not too bad right now! I have an intro to Bible Class online, umm Missionary Anthropology, Missionary Internship at the Urban youth Center , and The City in Urban Perspective... all seem as if they are going to be pretty interesting, I actually just finished my module which was Personal and Spiritual Development of the Minister, I actually really like the class. I was told that it was going to be boring, however, I enjoyed it. But enough of that rambling, I am pretty excited about this semester and all the exciting things God has in store for me. I will be doing lots of research, lots of reading and LOTS of writing, so hopefully there wont be too many brain farts... LOL

This weekend was a work my butt off type weekend, the weather has been wacky , and yesterday was my first day off off... nothing to do, so i caught up on laundry watched Tristan and Isolde ( amazing movie) and cleaned this mess of an apartment. At work this weekend I bought a coloring book and have literally been coloring picture every day at work because the weather has sucked and business has been DOWN! I did however catch up on movies this weekend, I watched Pride( which is about the African American swim team), Good Luck Chuck, Mr. Woodcock, Suburban Girl, and The Game Plan, I also just rented Across the Universe so Im pretty excited about that.

I know all of this seems like tons of fun, but its really not that great, I kinda need a life! I have the whole weekend off,... and so much to do, so I am sure you will get an update after all the fun!
